Hippies From Hell Documentary about the Hippies from Hell community that played an important role in the introduction of the internet in the Netherlands. Contrary to other European countries, in the Netherlands the first internet providers were organized around independent groups of tinkerers, artists, engineers, programmers, encryption specialists and, indeed, 'hackers'. Artist, filmmaker and journalist Ine Poppe, as well as her son Zoro, were part of this community. Poppe presents an intimate portrait of a closely knit group of people, their social structure and (sub-) culture. Hippies from Hell is a historical document that provides an insight in the background, the motives and strategies of the trailblazers of the internet in Europe. We follow Ine Poppe in her exploration of the Hippies from Hell community she became a part of around the end of the last millennium. Poppe interviews one of the kingpins of the Dutch (and international) hacker movement, Rop Gonggrijp, other community members and shows the community during activities like parties and dinners. The film elaborates on one of the popular hacker-hobbies: lock picking. An important moment in the film (spoiler alert!) is when an undercover agent for the Dutch police is exposed during a lock pick activity. Hippies from Hell shows the journey of the maker exploring the span-width of the word 'hacking' as a mentality rather than its general meaning of breaking into computer systems. It also indicates the importance of the Hippies from Hell community during this intense moment in tech-history. (imdb) -
hacks In HACKS, the Austrian multimedia artist Christine Bader examines who is the computer hacker and what moves him or her. Is the hacker a Robin Hood in cyber space or an anarchistic agitator? Bader speaks with Dutch, German and American communication freaks who are working with various kinds of network issues, like making the Internet accessible to individual persons (Felipe Rodriguez, founder of Internet provider Xs4all), creating a meeting place in cyber space, or designing an ultramodern communication network on a ‘multimedia art ship‘. ‘Hackers are not encumbered by technical, financial or organisational problems, they just want to do things‘, Rodriguez thinks. That the technological means ‘just to do things‘ are now freely available is demonstrated by the numerous computer initiatives that whiz past in HACKS. -

Camp 2007 Documentation Video The official movie documentation of the Chaos Communication Camp 2007. The Chaos Communication Camp is an international, five-day open-air event for hackers and associated life-forms. The Camp features two conference tracks with interesting lectures, a workshop-track and over 30 villages providing workshops and gettogethers covering a specific topic. The Camp 2007 took place from August 8th to 12th in Finowfurt near Berlin with more than 2000 participants. -

Alles ist Eins. Ausser der 0. Sie sind Aktivisten, Spione, Genies: Ohne die Hacker schiene uns die schöne bunte, digitale Informationsgesellschaft als bestmögliche aller Welten. Sie sind die Aufklärer, die der blinde Glaube an die mehr oder weniger sozialen Netzwerke nötig hat. Vom Computer-Nerd zum Datenkünstler, vom Einsiedler zum Medienstar, vom subversiven Hacker zum Verfechter der Demokratie: Der energiegeladene Dokumentarfilm ALLES IST EINS. AUSSER DER 0. zeigt mit cleveren Montagen, wie die großen Fragen unserer Gegenwart das Leben und Wirken Wau Hollands durchzogen. Akte CCC – Der Chaos Computer Club In der für 3sat realisierten Dokumentation zeichnen wir erstmals im deutschen Fernsehen die bewegte Geschichte des Chaos Computer Clubs nach - von anarchischen Rebellen zu gefragten Beratern in Politik und Gesellschaft. Der Film erhielt 2011 den Journalistenpreis Informatik.
