on Canadian initiatives relating to standardisation in the field of protection of privacy
Adopted by the Working Party on 29 May 1997
THE WORKING PARTY ON THE PROTECTION OF INDIVIDUALS WITH REGARD TO THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA
- set up by Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995,
- having regard to Articles 29, 30 paragraph 1 letter b) and 30 paragraph 3 of that Directive,
- having regard to its Rules of Procedure and in particular to articles 12 and 14 thereof,
takes note of the work undertaken in Canada regarding the creation of quality standards for the protection of privacy,
notes the initiative to develop and adopt international standards within the International Standard Organisation (ISO),
considers that such initiatives significantly contribute to the protection of fundamental rights and privacy on a world-wide basis.
